Thought I would share some feedback from the recent gun & knife show. It was held in Sauk Centre, MN this past weekend and was well attended both days.
Knife and Axe Sales
Knife and axe sales were great as far as I was concerned. I had taken a mixture of hatchets and axes but just 4 of the Adler Canoe Axes. The Canoe Axes were sold out by noon on Saturday. Sunday I had 3 more customers show up wanting to buy one. One of the buyers had read about the Canoe Axe online and once he actually got to handle one, he didn’t hesitate to buy it. I sold a number of other axes and hatchets with a few axe throwers in the mix. If you’re and outdoorsman or use an axe around the yard, the Canoe Axe is a winner.
Knife sales were excellent as well. For some reason the fixed blades seemed to be the knives drawing the most action. It wasn’t necessarily the higher end or the lower price knives that were selling. It was a mix of the two. I found this interesting as most of the shows I’ve gone to the action seems to be in one category or the other. High end blades or less expensive.
If you live in the northern part of the country that allows fish spearing, you would have appreciated one of the vendors. I saw the guy set up early Saturday morning with around 15-20 spears. About an hour later a guy walked by our tables with one of the spears and it was stunning. Highly polished with what appeared to be some brass trim to stiffen the tines. Really a work of art. I later found out they were selling in the $300 and up range (way up). By around noon he had left the show having sold out. Really wish I could have checked them out.
Gun & Ammo sales
Gun sales were a little above average and prices were well above average. What’s stunning is the price that ammo is bringing. Seeing the common calibers selling for 2 to 3 times normal retail is pretty standard. Some of the hunting ammunition appears to be getting more scarce. I’ll put a reminder in the next week but just a quick note that they’ve confirmed the Detroit Lakes Gun/Knife show for the weekend of April 24-25. The had to skip the show last year due to the Covid situation and remodeling in the Armory. Maybe we’re finally back to ‘normal’????
