I finally got the first shipment of the Camel Bone 92 Eureka Jack’s in yesterday. They just went in the store this morning. A quick heads up, I’ll be receiving another small batch the first of the week.
I’ve heard from a number of folks that haven’t all been pleased with the pull on the 92’s. Some complaints have centered around an inconsistent pull, some being lighter then others and some just wanting a heavier pull in general.
I’ve noticed a slight variation in the weight of the pull but I can’t honestly say it’s unusual. What I will say is that the pull does seems light for a knife this size. I don’t think it’s excessively light.
It came up in a conversation with a customer yesterday and I agree. My feeling is the pattern is relatively long. Combine that with the long pull on the spear blade and you end up with a mechanical advantage when opening the blade. Put a standard nail nick on that spear blade and place at the center or just behind the center and you’re going to increase the ‘perceived’ weight of pull considerably.
Personally, I don’t like an overly heavy pull on any knife. If my hands are wet or it’s 10 below zero, the last thing I want to have to do is struggle to get that blade open. Now I don’t want such a soft pull I’m in fear of that blade closing on my finger (been there done that!!) there’s a happy balance. I think the 92’s fall in that sweet spot.
