Saturday I received the first of the 2019 128119 GEC Toothpick knives. Standard dimensions are the same as previous releases. 4″ OAL Closed, 7″ OAL open, 1095 Satin Blade, no half stop. The main difference from most previous runs are the satin bolsters and end caps.
The first release is in Che Chen Rosewood. I’m a bit disappointed the Rosewood doesn’t have a more figure. Rosewood can vary greatly and I would say this batch is pretty middle of the road. Personally, I’d like to see a little fancier grain even if it comes at a higher price.
While I’m not a great fan of the toothpick patterns, I have to admit it fits the hand nicely. It’s slim in the pocket and the curved butt fits the palm of your hand for heavy duty cutting.
The other feature of this knife I like are the satin finished bolsters and end cap. I’ve said it before but it bears repeating. There are some handle materials/colors that work well with the satin finish and Che Chen Rosewood is one of those handle materials. It’s just a nice looking knife that carries a used but well cared for appearance.
