Hard to believe but this will be the 8th year for the Ice Out Contest. It all started in 2012 giving folks around the world the chance to win an incredible prize. All you had/have to do is give us an accurate prediction when we will see the ice go off the lake in my part of the world. Here’s a few tips and a little history.
“Normal” Ice Out is around the third week of April. I’ll let you sort out what ‘normal’ is. If you’re into a little research, go back in previous blog posts and you can get an idea when the ice has gone out in the past. Obviously weather makes a huge difference.
Its been a long winter and we’ve had some great ice making conditions. I haven’t checked the ice thickness lately but I know we had around 36″ a month ago. The weather has been warming and we’ve had a nice slow thaw. That being said, we’ve still got a lot of ice to thaw.
A few folks have taken the contest serious enough to follow the weather pattern up here and really dig into the facts. More then anything, just have some fun with it. Here are the rules for the Ice Out Contest.
