and the winner of a new 610410 Congress is…………

This has been a long time coming and I know more then a few of you had completely given up hope that I’d ever carry through on this drawing.  BUT…. it’s taken a LOOOoooong time to see a new blade config on the Congress’ since it was first talked about.

The upside is that it’s a great looking knife and the spear blade compliments the pen blade fantastically.  The two wharncliffe’s are a nice change from the original sheepsfoot blades.  Plus, they end up giving the knife a slightly lower profile with the Wharncliffe’s making an even more pocket friendly knife.

The downside is we’re only going to see a few of these knives produced with the spear blade before ths combo is retired.

So with drum roll playing in the background…………

the winner is……………

Stefan T. from the great state of Texas!  Congrats, the knife is in the mail!

New 61 Congress Knife Giveaway is gonna happen!!! Finally!!!

Back in July of last year, I had information that GEC was going to be offering up a 61 Congress with a new blade configuration.  I set up a survey of what you’d like to see offered and promised a random drawing to give away one of the new Congress’ to a survey participant.  Well, we’re finally going to see a new Congress come through sometime in February (I’ve been told) and being a man of my word, I’m giving away one of the new Congress’.

I have the names of everyone that got in on that original survey (and you’ll automatically be included in the drawing) and am going to open it up again to anyone that may not have been following the blog back then.

All you have to do to get your name in the drawing is reply to this entry with your suggestions for blades you’d like to see offered in the Congress.  If you participated before, you’re more then welcome to resubmit new ideas (your name only goes in the drawing once so you can’t stuff the ballot box) Once the new Congress is shipped, I’ll hold the drawing and announce it on the blog.

Here are the results of the earlier survey:

  1. Wharncliffe

  2. Spear

  3. Clip

  4. Pen

It looks like that would make up the perfect Congress….for most of us…with something for everyone.  There were also a number of you recommending a Sheepsfoot (which I’ll throw in with the Wharncliffe), coping blade, punches and tools such as the hoof pick, cigar cutter, etc.  Now, the interesting thing will be to see just exactly what GEC ends up putting together!!!

New 61 Blade configurations coming soon!!

Got the word from GEC this morning that we’ll see a couple more of the 61’s come through before we see the new blade configurations released.  I can’t help but wonder if they aren’t looking at some of the suggestions you all have made before they go ahead with it!  I’m again encouraging anyone with opinions to get them posted.

I did a quick tally on all of the suggestions and counted the frequency a blade was mentioned.  At this point here’s the consensus listed according to the most frequently suggested.

  1. Wharncliffe

  2. Spear

  3. Clip

  4. Pen

Last chance!!!

If you didn’t get the info before, TSA Knives is giving away one of the new Congress’ with the revised blade configuration.  The winner will be randomly drawn from the list of contributors to the blog with suggestions for blade combinations.

We’re going to see a Congress in the next couple of weeks with the new blade configuration.  This is your last chance to weigh in on suggestions.  Like I said before, even if a suggestion was made the same as your idea, post it anyway and you’ll be included in the drawing!!

Keep up the suggestions for a shot at a free #61 Congress!!

You guys have put up some great suggestions for blade combinations.  Now, I want to encourage any of you that haven’t posted anything becuase someone else already posted your idea.  Don’t worry about it, put your suggestion up also.  Here’s why….

I’m interested to see how many suggestions we get for the same blade combinations.  Can we see a consensus forming?  Just put in your 2 cents worth and you’re in the drawing.

Congress Blade suggestions….speak up NOW and win a Free Congress!!!

I haven’t had a knife giveaway in a while and I think another one’s long over due.

I just put up the projected production schedule for Great Eastern that will take us into Fall of ’09.  NOW….if you read my post and missed it….one more time….

GEC will be running the #61 Congress with a change in blade configurations.  I don’t believe anything has been chiseled in stone as to what the combination might be so if anyone has some good ideas about what they’d like to see, speak up now.  Can’t say exactly when it’ll be released, but it’ll be later this summer.  This is a great time to have a little consumer input!!!!

In fact, here’s the deal, anyone that puts up a reasonable suggestion  for a new blade combination (no suggestions for saw blades, pliers, etc) will get their name put in the proverbial hat for a drawing for one of the new Congress’ FREE from TSA Knives, LLC.  Anyone that’s already submitted an idea is in the drawing already. The only condition is the idea has to be posted under the “Great Eastern Cutlery #61 Congress Blade Suggestions” category.  Don’t send me a personal Email thinking I’ll put you in.  You can just post a comment to this posting by hitting reply and replying!!

Submit your Congress Blade Suggestions HERE!!!

Okay, I’ve had numerous emails, a couple of phone conversations and several comments on the blog regarding the blade configurations on the new #61 Great Eastern Congress.  I know the blog gets read by a few folks at Great Eastern and your comments don’t go unnoticed.  So……lets hear your ideas.  I guarantee you we’ll see some other blade combinations, so if you’ve got an idea or suggestion, good time to voice it.
