Time for an ice out update. It’s gone from winter right into summer it seems like. Well…..not really.
We had freezing temps and almost a foot of snow just a couple of weeks ago. This past Sunday we crowde 70 degrees. The last few days have been in the low to mid 60’s and the ice is showing the results.
The rest of the week looks like more warm temps and overnight it stays above freezing. No major rain in the forecast.
I had personally guessed ice out around May 1 and I don’t think that’s going to be far off. If the temperatures hold out and we get some strong winds, it wouldn’t surprise me if we saw a repeat of last year with the ice suddenly disappearing in a matter of hours.
I know you folks living in warmer climates no doubt laugh and laugh at our excitement over ice out. Let me tell you. After 6+ months of snow and freezing temperatures…..Yeh, we get excited in the spring!!!
We get about 4 months of lake water warm enough to comfortably swim in. In roughly 5 months we could get snow again!!!!! I remember camping in Minnesota one year on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends and having snowfall on both dates. Ice out is definitely a major event.
